Andrew Wolf Epstein studied jazz piano at the UC Berkeley Jazz Ensembles while pursuing a degree in environmental studies. At UCB Andrew studied with the wonderful Susan Muscarella, founder/director of the Jazzschool, and played in various jazz, funk, and latin ensembles.
Upon graduation, Andrew began intensive study with master pianist and jazz legend Dick Hindman. Performing primarily in the Bay Area, Andrew leads his own ensemble--The Tropical Hi-Flyers--and performs as a sideman with many local jazz groups, vocalists, and theater productions.
He composed the music and directed the orchestra for the critically acclaimed Killing My Lobster's comedy theater productions Circus of Failure (2002) and Goes to the Polls (2004).
Andrew is passionate about Brazilian music. In 2003, he spent six months in Northeast Brazil learning traditional rhythms and culture in Recife where he played in a maracatu percussion group and was exposed to many fantastic musical experiences that are a continual inspiration.
